Step 4: Contribution

A pair of Tefillin begins with hides that are soaked, treated, and pressed. The batim are formed by hand from a single piece of leather, squared, and finished. A sofer writes four parshiyos on parchment, letter by letter, in ksav that must be perfect. The parshiyos are rolled, wrapped, and set in order. The straps are cut and dyed black by hand on the outer side.

Weeks of work, across several trained hands, for one kosher pair.

We have brought our cost down to $950 per pair. That is what we pay. It is not a retail price.

We will get you your pair. If you are able, consider making a donation toward it. Whatever you give goes toward your pair and toward getting another man his.
